John Hale: man of modesty, sculptor of distinction

John Hale (1933-2021) Photograph courtesy David Paskett

It was a privilege to know John Hale, who died on the 12th June, aged 88. I got to know John as the partner of artist Janet Treloar who passed away a few years before he did. I was once a guest at their Cornwall home but I more regularly saw John at Royal Watercolour Society events at Bankside Gallery when he was always charming and disarmingly modest about his own distinguished career as a sculptor. We would talk about his years in Italy when he lived in the artist village of Anticoli Corrado and would turn heads as he swept past astride his Lambretta motor scooter. He leaves a museum in Italy dedicated to his work. I'll miss his gentle smile. Find out more about John Hale's work here: http://www.johnhale.art/
