ABOUT THE ARTIST

Simon Pierse was born in London in 1956. He studied painting at the Slade School of Fine Art and afterwards in Florence at the Accademia delle Belli Arti on an Italian Government Scholarship in 1980-1. Between 1992-2016 he was lecturer and senior lecturer at the School of Art, Aberystwyth University. Simon was artist in residence at Melbourne Grammar School 1992-3, GAAA, Glen Abor, Michigan in 1998, Artist Fellow at La Trobe University, 2006, Dunmoochin Foundation, 2008-9 & 2o18, Visiting Fellow at the University of Melbourne in 2014. He was elected a member of the Royal Watercolour Society in 2003 and served as its vice-president 2009-12. He is an artist associate member of the Alpine Club and an honorary member of the Australian Watercolour Institute. Simon retired from teaching in 2016 and is currently emeritus senior lecturer at Aberystwyth University. In 2022 he taught as a volunteer at a rural school in Uttarakhand and returned to India in 2024. Indian Yellow, a retrospective was held at MOMA Machynlleth in February-March 2024. In July 2024, Simon was invited by David Paskett to exhibit in the Premio internazionale di acquarello "Marche d'aqua" in Fabriano.
