Big Announcement: RWS NOW The inaugural exhibition at the brand new RWS Gallery at Whitcomb Street 7th – 21st June Tuesday – Saturday, 11am – 5pm RWS Gallery, 3 – 5 Whitcomb Street, London WC2H 7HA The first official Royal Watercolour Society exhibition (since the almost year-long soft launch) will commemorate the RWS’s return to the gallery they were based at around 200 years ago. Spread across both of the newly renovated ground and lower-ground gallery spaces, RWS NOW will feature original artworks in water-based media by almost every present day artist Member, Associate, Guest and Honorary Member of the RWS. This extraordinary display of work will include pieces by artists such as Barbara Rae, David Remfry, and Diana Armfield to name just a few. The exhibition will continue into the building’s historic vaults rooms where a fascinating presentation of reportage drawings produced on location by RWS Member Julia Midgley, during the construction phase of the project will be shown. This will provide visitors with a rare insight into not only these ‘off-limits’ areas of the gallery, but also into how the space evolved from a derelict listed building into a modern contemporary art gallery. RWS NOW will be the Society’s first exhibition at the new RWS Gallery and will mark a very special, historic occasion as they begin their 250 year lease. Situated just off Trafalgar Square, the gallery will serve as a space to complement the RWS’s existing home at Bankside Gallery and will host exhibitions and events to promote and celebrate the enjoyment of water based media and all art.
